v0.27.0
v0.27.0 was released on 2026-09-30. This page covers List view, text editor tabs, archive creation, and updates to file types, previews and file operations.
The kinds of change (New / Improved / Fixed) are explained on the Changelog page. Unless a platform difference is noted, shortcuts on this page use Windows / Linux notation; on macOS, replace Ctrl with ⌘.
New
| # | Kind | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | New | List view arranges small icons and single-line file names from top to bottom, continuing in the next column to the right when a column is full. It fits more files on one screen and scrolls horizontally when the content exceeds the window width. |
| 2 | New | The context menu for a single text file offers Open in Editor Tab, which requires a valid license. Editor tabs support line numbers, syntax highlighting, find, undo and redo. Press Ctrl+S to save. Saving preserves the original encoding, BOM and line endings; if another program has modified the file, tessoa asks before overwriting it. Supported encodings are UTF-8, GB18030 and UTF-16 with a BOM. Limits are 16 MiB, 200,000 lines and 10,000 characters per line. When a file exceeds these limits or cannot be decoded, the tab explains why and offers Open in default editor. |
| 3 | New | The file context menu offers Compress to ZIP, Compress to 7z and Compress to…. Selected files and folders can be compressed into ZIP, 7z or tar.gz archives; ZIP and 7z support password encryption. Archive creation is available on all three platforms without an external compression tool. It supports progress reporting, cancellation and undo; undo moves the generated archive to the recycle bin or trash. |
| 4 | New | File Types in Settings lets you create groups and custom types by extension, then assign double-click events, context-menu commands, drag-and-drop commands and Info tip templates. Custom Commands can be limited to specific file types and use the destination folder in drag-and-drop commands. On Windows, commands and events can also be attached to System file types. |
| 5 | New | When pasting, moving, deleting or permanently deleting files fails, the notification and the record in Activity offer Details. Failure details list item names, full paths and reasons. Click an item to locate it in its containing folder, or use Copy Details to copy text for a report. Up to 100 failed items are recorded per operation, with the number of omitted items shown when this limit is exceeded. Details are saved with the activity record. |
| 6 | New | Failure details offer Retry failed items to repeat the original operation for the listed items without repeating work that succeeded. The retry creates new progress and activity records. On Windows, if every listed item failed because of insufficient permissions, the button becomes Retry as administrator. |
| 7 | New | The name-conflict dialog offers Show full paths to reveal the full source and destination paths. Press P to toggle it. The expanded state is retained the next time the dialog opens. |
| 8 | New | Terminal Color Scheme under Settings → Preview → Terminal Tab offers Match Theme, Campbell, One Half Dark, One Half Light and Solarized Light. The default is Match Theme, with Increase Text Contrast Automatically enabled to make bright text easier to read on a light background. |
| 9 | New | Gallery adds a tag control beside the file name. Hover over the tag dot or add button to open a panel where you can add or remove tags with the mouse. The count beside a parent tag shows how many tags beneath it are applied. |
| 10 | New | All five views have direct shortcuts. On Windows / Linux, Ctrl+Shift+1 through 5 switch to Gallery, Columns, Details, List and Icons, respectively. On macOS, ⌘+1 through 5 switch to Icons, Details, Columns, Gallery and List, respectively. |
| 11 | New | Copy current folder path uses Ctrl+Shift+C on Windows / Linux and ⌘+⌥+C on macOS. A notification confirms that the path was copied. |
| 12 | New | Show File Extensions is on by default. When disabled, file extensions are hidden in the file area, and inline renaming edits only the base name while preserving the original extension. Folder names and names such as .gitignore are unaffected. |
| 13 | New | Sidebar: Auto-Collapse When Unfocused is off by default. When enabled, the sidebar collapses when you interact elsewhere in tessoa, such as the file area. Switching to another program does not trigger it. |
| 14 | New | Remember Search History is on by default. The bottom filter field and sidebar search field share the 10 most recent searches, shown when an empty field receives focus. Disabling this setting clears the saved history. |
| 15 | New | Match Case When Typing Uppercase is off by default. Filtering and searching are case-insensitive by default; when this setting is enabled, they become case-sensitive only if the query contains an uppercase letter. Pinyin-initial matching remains case-insensitive. |
| 16 | New | File names below icons in Icons and below the large image in Gallery can occupy 1 to 4 lines, with a default maximum of 4. Max Lines per File Name, Icon Row Height, Wrap At and Separators control the line limit, row height and wrapping rules. |
| 17 | New | Show Row Numbers in Details is off by default. When enabled, rows are numbered in their current display order, starting at 1 in each group. The select-all checkbox in the header distinguishes no selection, partial selection and full selection. Clicking it when some or all items are checked clears all checks. |
| 18 | New | Preview tabs add Show Only the Last Selected File When Following Focus, which is off by default. When enabled, the preview updates only when a single file is selected. Switching tab groups, selecting a folder, selecting multiple items or clearing the selection retains the previous preview. With this setting off, Follow focus also retains the previous file group's preview when focus moves to a preview, terminal or component tab, so interacting with the preview itself does not change its contents. |
| 19 | New | Keep-both numbering offers parentheses, a hyphen, an underscore or a custom format. A custom Number format uses an example containing digits, such as -0 or _01, to set the starting number and digit count. This rule also applies to rename conflicts, restore operations and other actions that need automatic numbering. |
Improved
| # | Kind | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Improved | Columns can display the same information columns as Details, including recursive folder sizes. Headers support sorting and choosing which information to show. Columns saves its own column visibility and order. Expand the Active Column is on by default; More Info in Wider Columns and Two-Line Details are off. Moving right preserves expanded columns on the left; moving left narrows columns on the right. |
| 21 | Improved | Hidden-item detection now has separate switches for names beginning with a dot and the system hidden attribute, both enabled by default. The hidden attribute applies only on Windows. This lets you control folders such as .git separately from items marked hidden by the system. |
| 22 | Improved | The default sidebar layout gives each component its own pane. Layouts, Storage and Places are expanded by default and sized to their contents. Restoring a session preserves its existing layout. Open Tabs is now visible by default, including in existing configurations where its visibility has never been changed. |
| 23 | Improved | Storage entries in the sidebar show volume labels and drive letters, such as Home (C:). Folder-detail tooltips prefer a position outside the sidebar to obscure less of its content. |
| 24 | Improved | Removing a favorite uses Remove from Favorites in its context menu. The sidebar supports removing several selected favorites at once. Favorites in the quick bar support context menus, reordering items of the same kind, dragging folders and dropdown items, and opening subfolders on hover. |
| 25 | Improved | For local paths that respond normally, address-bar completion lists matching files before the file name is fully entered. After you type a complete file path, it shows the containing folder and where pressing Enter will take you. Network or slow locations do not provide immediate completion or check existence in advance; entering a complete folder path lets asynchronous loading show the result. |
| 26 | Improved | Image previews use faster resizing and JPEG decoding, and Gallery starts loading previews earlier. Returning to a cached image displays the sharp image directly; the blur transition on first load is also shorter. |
| 27 | Improved | While dragging files, an icon beside the pointer shows the action that will run when you release. Modifier keys take effect according to their state at release. Hold Shift during a drag to move; on Windows, hold Alt or Ctrl+Shift to create a shortcut. Show Drop Target Name is off by default and can be enabled to display the destination name. |
| 28 | Improved | On Windows, third-party context-menu entries and frequently used submenus load in advance to reduce waiting and menu-size changes. The extensions page can expand each extension to show its entries and icons. Right-click a menu entry to inspect its source, adjust its loading behavior or hide it; the available options depend on whether its source can be identified. |
| 29 | Improved | On Windows, Windows Ink pens can operate the interface. |
| 30 | Improved | On Windows, when a file cannot be deleted or moved because it is in use, the notification and activity record show the name of the program holding it when possible. If the program cannot be identified, they still explain that the file is in use. |
| 31 | Improved | On Windows, the slow-startup dialog distinguishes startup that is still in progress from startup that did not complete, and closes automatically when the window appears. The log includes a summary of time spent in startup stages to help diagnose delays. |
| 32 | Improved | Breadcrumbs on settings subpages can be clicked to return to a parent page, and the program picker displays program icons. Several setting names and descriptions have been revised to clarify their scope and what happens when they are enabled. |
| 33 | Improved | RAR archives support browsing and file previews within tessoa when a suitable external tool is installed. Windows can use 7-Zip or WinRAR; macOS / Linux can use 7zz, 7z or unrar from PATH. RAR archives nested inside another archive cannot currently be entered. |
| 34 | Improved | The free edition can use one Columns or Gallery tab. The two views share a single allowance across the application, including other windows. Browsing inside archives is now free, as are plain-text previews of txt, text, log, ini, inf, xml, csv, reg, bat and cmd files. Other text formats remain subject to the license's feature access. |
| 35 | Improved | Licensing uses the release model and removes the beta expiry limit. The license page shows the plan name and licensee, and changes in license status produce a notification. Plans cover the same paid features but differ in update eligibility. |
| 36 | Improved | Preview plugins are now called plugins. Plugins has moved to the System category in settings. Installing, updating and using plugins requires a valid license, including installation from a local file. Browsing the plugin list, disabling plugins and uninstalling them remain available. Plugin descriptions wrap automatically. |
| 37 | Improved | Symbolic links and Windows directory junctions display a shortcut arrow on their icons, making them distinguishable from regular files and folders in the file area and sidebar folder trees. |
Fixed
| # | Kind | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 38 | Fixed | Copying or moving a checked parent folder no longer processes its automatically checked children separately. The folder hierarchy is preserved, and children no longer appear again at the destination's top level. |
| 39 | Fixed | Batch renaming a checked parent folder no longer processes its automatically checked descendants again or reports errors caused by that repeated processing. |
| 40 | Fixed | Expanding all subfolders no longer causes the list to flicker repeatedly during periodic refreshes. |
| 41 | Fixed | Switching back from another program to a window showing a network folder no longer reloads thumbnails and resets the scroll position to the top. |
| 42 | Fixed | When a horizontal scrollbar is present, the sidebar can now scroll vertically to the bottom. Columns can also scroll to the last item when restoring navigation history or selecting an item after an operation. |
| 43 | Fixed | The preview pane can be resized when its edge coincides with the right edge of the last column in Columns. The sidebar's fit button also works when both panes can contain their contents. |
| 44 | Fixed | Selecting newly placed files after a paste or drag no longer adds them to the previous checked selection. Only the items produced by the operation remain selected. |
| 45 | Fixed | On macOS, files copied from Finder can be pasted into tessoa without a “system error 20” message. |
| 46 | Fixed | On Windows, restoring a window after starting maximized uses its previous restored size. Rapidly resizing a small window no longer exposes black edges. |
| 47 | Fixed | On Windows, dragging a window by its title bar to a monitor with a different scale no longer leaves it at an unsuitable size or outside the work area. |
| 48 | Fixed | On Windows, the window material no longer disappears when the window is maximized or loses focus. |
| 49 | Fixed | Sorting by date, size, count and other fields works when the filter field contains text. Pressing Esc also exits filtering when the file list has focus. |
| 50 | Fixed | Returning to a previously visited folder or switching views in place keeps the focused item near its previous position on screen. |
| 51 | Fixed | A file being played by a preview plugin can be deleted, moved or renamed without the plugin's own file handle blocking the operation. |
| 52 | Fixed | Transfers with failed items no longer report that everything completed successfully. |
| 53 | Fixed | Automatic numbering no longer splits names containing dots incorrectly. For example, keeping both copies of a folder named v1.2 produces v1.2 (2) instead of v1 (2).2. |
| 54 | Fixed | Items that scroll out of view during rectangle selection no longer become deselected. When all subfolders are expanded, selecting a folder row with a rectangle selects only that row, without also checking its descendants. |
| 55 | Fixed | Pressing Tab in a confirmation dialog no longer closes it. Buttons support keyboard focus changes and consistently show their backgrounds and focus indicators. |
| 56 | Fixed | In the default name-highlighting mode, right-clicking blank space within a row after selecting multiple items no longer opens the context menu for the whole selection. Highlighted areas and text in data columns still open the file menu. With full-row highlighting enabled, the entire row remains a menu target. |
| 57 | Fixed | Scrolling over a settings dropdown or the settings panel no longer changes obscured zoom options or controls in the bottom bar. |
| 58 | Fixed | Small icon strokes no longer appear slightly distorted at fractional scale factors such as 125%. |
| 59 | Fixed | The plugin list no longer remains in a loading state for an extended period when the network is unavailable. A connection-failure message appears when the request reaches its 15-second overall timeout. |
| 60 | Fixed | Warnings that the preview graphics-memory cache is nearly full no longer go missing or appear repeatedly. The check now includes previews still in use across all windows and reduces repeated notifications while browsing. |
Limitations
Save editor-tab contents before switching, reloading or creating a layout, or restarting after an update or settings import. These operations do not yet check for unsaved changes. Editor contents are not restored as drafts across restarts; unsaved changes are also lost on system shutdown or an unexpected exit. Closing an editor tab or window, or exiting the application normally, asks whether to save.
Downgrading
Save files you are editing and back up the entire configuration folder before downgrading. Version 0.26.0 and earlier cannot retain the new settings for information shown in Columns, file-name wrapping, extension visibility, sidebar auto-collapse, search history and case matching, row numbers, preview following, editor wrapping, terminal colors, conflict paths and automatic numbering. These settings are lost when an older version rewrites config.ini.
Older versions cannot fully restore sessions and layouts containing List view, editor tabs or the new saved folder positions. Other tabs and split panes may also be restored incompletely. Saving activity records in an older version discards failed-item lists, retry information and names of programs holding files. Records in new categories, such as compression and editor save failures, are also lost.
Older versions ignore the new file-type and menu scopes in commands.ini. Custom commands may appear for more file types, or appear in the context menu when they were intended only for the drop menu. Saving commands in an older version discards these restrictions. filetypes.ini is a separate file whose rules are not used by older versions.
