Released 2026-08-17. This release adds dragging things in from other programs: files, mail attachments, images from a chat window, and text or links selected on a web page. The right-click menu gained two sections — commands you define yourself, and the entries cloud drives, antivirus tools and 7-Zip install into the system; every entry in the menu can now be switched off one by one, and so can the columns of the details list. Updates can be installed in the background, ready the next time you start tessoa. Preview gained TIFF, SVG and audio cover art, and on Windows it shows the system's thumbnails for psd, dwg, video and the like.

The kind marked on each entry (New / Improved / Fixed) is explained in the changelog.

#	Kind	Change
1	New	Dragging files in from other programs: pick files up in File Explorer, a chat window or a browser, drag them onto the tessoa window and let go, and they land in the folder you dropped them on. The target lights up while you drag, and a label by the cursor says what the drop will do. Ctrl copies, Shift moves, Alt makes a shortcut and dragging with the right button opens a menu on drop, all matching File Explorer; with no key held, a drop moves within one drive and copies across drives. Progress, name clashes and undo take the same route as pasting. Complete on Windows; on macOS and Linux (X11) only real files are accepted and they always land in the focused tab; on Linux (Wayland) it is not supported. See Dragging files in
2	New	Things that have no file on disk yet can be dropped too: mail attachments and images from chat windows or browsers are written out as real files when you let go. This case is always a copy, and modifier keys have no effect. See Dragging files in
3	New	Text, links and images from a web page are saved as files: text becomes a .txt named after its first line, a link becomes a .url named after the host, and an image is saved in the format it already is. File Explorer refuses all three, so tessoa opens a small menu before writing anything and only Save here goes ahead. See Dragging files in
4	New	Lists scroll on their own at the edges while you drag: hold the cursor at the top or bottom edge of a list and it scrolls, faster the longer you stay, stopping when you leave the edge. This also works for drags inside the window and for rubber-band selection
5	New	Custom right-click commands: give one a name, a program and a line of arguments and it appears at the bottom of the right-click menu, handing the selected files to that program. Arguments can use placeholders like %1, %* and %D; the settings page has a live preview and a Test run, plus a set of Common commands templates to start from. The command list lives in commands.ini, and editing it by hand works too. See Custom commands
6	New	Right-click entries installed by other software are back in the menu (Windows): a cloud drive's "share", an antivirus scan, the 7-Zip and TortoiseGit entries now follow tessoa's own. They are read in a separate process, so an extension that hangs or crashes cannot take the tessoa window with it, and tessoa's own entries are always drawn first without waiting for them. 7	New	A settings page for shell extensions (Windows): Settings › Input › Shell Extensions lists every program on this machine that adds entries to the right-click menu, with its DLL, roughly how long it takes and how much memory it uses. Each one can be set to Auto (follow the measurements), Keep loaded, Reload each time or Never load. The ⋯ button at the right end of the menu's search box opens the page directly. 8	New	Every entry in the right-click menu can be switched off one by one: Settings › Input › Context Menu Order gained a toggle at the right end of each row, and switching it off keeps that entry out of menus of this kind. A row switched off stays in place, still holding its accelerator key, ready to be switched back on; the accelerator goes away with it, so a hidden entry no longer occupies a letter. This works per menu kind, so the same entry can stay in the file menu and be dropped from the background menu. See Arranging the interface
9	New	Right-clicking the header of the details list chooses which columns are shown: the Columns shown menu lists five columns with ticks, clicking one shows or hides it, and the menu stays open so you can tick several in a row. Name is listed but not clickable. Size columns to fit window at the end re-fills the window with whatever columns are shown. See Arranging the interface
10	New	The columns of the details list have a settings page: Settings › View › List view columns handles order and visibility together. Applies to at the top decides whether a change affects All windows or This window only; below it the columns are split into Folders and This PC — the five slots at the top level of This PC show type, file system and free space, which is not the same thing at all, so each list is kept separately. 11	New	Updates can be installed in the background, ready on next start: Settings › About gained Auto-install Updates (applies on restart), on by default and subordinate to Auto-check for Updates. With it on, tessoa downloads, verifies and swaps in a new version by itself, without restarting and without interrupting you — one message at the start, then Updated to vX.Y.Z — restart to apply with a Restart Now button when it is done, while the standing line in the lower left changes to Ready: vX.Y.Z. Clicking that line during a background download takes the update over and shows the progress. A version that fails to install is not tried automatically a second time. See Settings: About
12	New	A switch for anonymous usage statistics: Settings › About gained Send Anonymous Usage Statistics. What is sent is a random installation number, the version, whether this is a beta build, the operating system and its version, the CPU architecture, the interface language and which version was reported last time — no paths, file names, user names or license keys. At most one report a day, none at all before you accept the Terms & Privacy Policy, and none from machines with DO_NOT_TRACK set. See Settings: About
13	New	Recents entries can be removed one at a time: hover a row and an × appears at its end, labelled Remove from Recent. Clearing the whole section used to be the only way out. What goes is that folder's whole record, and the next real visit starts counting again. See Interface tour
14	New	TIFF and SVG can be previewed: .tif / .tiff (multi-page files show the first page) and .svg / .svgz joined the image preview range, thumbnails and folder peek images included. SVG is drawn as the picture itself, no longer shown as text source. See Image preview
15	New	Audio files show their embedded cover art: covers stored inside .mp3, .flac, .m4a and .m4b are drawn in the preview area and in thumbnails. When a file holds several images, the one marked as the front cover wins. See Image preview
16	New	Thumbnails are asked of Windows: .psd, .ai, .dwg, video, camera RAW and other formats tessoa cannot decode itself now show up whenever File Explorer has a thumbnail for them — the very same image. Those images are produced by whichever software handles the format, so without it installed there is nothing to fetch; fetching them is guarded by a timeout, so a third-party component that hangs cannot cost tessoa a frame. 17	New	When there is definitely nothing to preview, it says so: the fallback to a file icon now carries No preview for this file type underneath. Nothing is written while decoding is still going on, because the answer isn't in yet
18	New	The context menu order page gained a filter box: search instead of scrolling when a group has many entries. Reordering works while a filter is active, and the entries take their places in the full table

19	Improved	The icon shown when there is no preview is a sharp one: it used to be a small icon scaled up, which turned to mush in the large-icon views and in the preview area. The 256-pixel version is now drawn directly, and icons of different files in the same slot are all the same size

20	Fixed	In the icons and gallery views, dragging a file onto a folder highlighted the whole tab group instead of that folder. Files did land in the folder under the cursor — only the indication was wrong, but what the screen said was "into the current folder", and the two did not agree. The same problem in the columns view was fixed in the previous release; this covers the other two views
21	Fixed	On a Linux Wayland session, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V did nothing in every text box. The one you were most likely to hit is the license page — the key could not be pasted in
22	Fixed	On a Linux Wayland session, dragging a tab always tore out a new window, so tabs could not be reordered in the tab bar. tessoa was reading "the window's position on screen is unavailable" as "the cursor is on the desktop"
23	Fixed	On a Linux Wayland session, window size and maximized state were reset on every start. Position genuinely is unavailable on Wayland — the desktop decides it, and GNOME's own applications don't remember it either — but size and maximized state are not, and they used to be discarded along with it
