v0.29.0
v0.29.0 was released on 2026-10-20. This release adds sandbox plugins and in-app release notes, changes search matching and paste behavior, and fixes file selection at network locations, preview scrolling and the Linux clipboard.
New
| # | Kind | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | New | Sandbox plugins run in a sandbox and can use only the permissions listed during installation and approved by you. They can provide plugin pages, context menu commands, columns in Details view and color schemes. Plugin pages can open as tabs or appear in the sidebar. On first installation, tessoa downloads the required Runtime automatically. Like existing preview plugins, sandbox plugins require valid paid entitlements. |
| 2 | New | The Available list under Settings → System → Plugins → Plugins supports online installation and updates for sandbox plugins. The first official plugins provide renaming by capture date, file hashes, image dimension columns, CSV tables, a JSON viewer, a task board and a calculator. Updates without additional permissions install directly; updates requesting additional permissions list them again for confirmation. |
| 3 | New | The Plugins page has Runtime, Installed and Available sections. Both plugin types appear together, with each row listing the features provided. Plugins with updates appear first in Available; click Refresh in the section header to fetch the list again. Install package… accepts both plugin types. Load folder… loads a plugin under development and updates it automatically after each build. Plugin community at the top of the page provides an Open button. |
| 4 | New | After an update, tessoa displays the release notes. To reopen them, click What's New at the top right of the window, or the version number above the plan name at the bottom left of Settings. Check Don't show this button in the title bar to hide the title bar button; it reappears after the next update. In-app release notes are available in Chinese and English; other interface languages display English. |
| 5 | New | The Recycle Bin can be added to favorites. Right-click it under Places in the sidebar, click the address bar star while viewing the Recycle Bin, or choose Add this tab to favorites from the tab context menu. |
| 6 | New | Windows: Opening Folders from Outside, under Settings → Layout → Startup, offers New tab in existing window (default) and New window. It applies to double-clicking folders, locating files from other applications and launching with a path from the command line. The existing-window option uses the most recently used window instead of the earliest opened one. This setting replaces the corresponding switch under Install / Integrate → Replace File Explorer (experimental) and preserves the previous choice. |
| 7 | New | Show Search Box and Name, under Settings → Context Menu, is on by default. Turn it off to hide the search box and name row at the top of context menus. Long names no longer widen the menu; they are truncated according to Ellipsis in the Middle. |
| 8 | New | With Single-Click to Open Folders enabled, Single-Click Area offers Whole Row (default) and Icon and Name Only. This setting affects only Details view. Enabling Double-Click Non-Name Columns to Go Up fixes the area to Icon and Name Only, so double-clicking the blank space to the right of a name goes up one folder. |
| 9 | New | Click Version under Settings → About to copy version information including the operating system and architecture, such as tessoa v0.29.0 (Windows x64), for a feedback report. |
| 10 | New | Linux: files can be dragged to other file managers, browser upload fields and chat applications on both Wayland and X11. Dragged files are copied; the originals remain in place. |
Improved
| # | Kind | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | Improved | Enable plugins now controls both plugin types. Turning it off also disables sandbox plugin commands, pages and columns. The Plugins page still lists installed plugins for disabling or uninstalling, but plugins cannot be installed from the Available list while the switch is off. |
| 12 | Improved | The Plugin Terms are now at revision 2 and cover sandbox plugins and their runtime. If you accepted the previous terms, you need to confirm the new terms before installing another plugin. The Privacy Policy now covers runtime downloads and information available to sandbox plugins. |
| 13 | Improved | Filtering and search now default to Contiguous matching. Each word must occur consecutively in the name; space-separated words must all match, in any order. Pinyin initials follow the same rule. To restore matching characters in sequence, such as finding README with rdme, select Subsequence under Settings → Keyboard & Mouse → Search → Fuzzy Match Mode. |
| 14 | Improved | When any items are checked, paste still targets the current folder. With no checked items, paste first targets the folder under the pointer, then a single selected folder, and otherwise the current folder. The context menu names the destination. After pasting into a subfolder, a notification identifies it and its row flashes once. |
| 15 | Improved | Right-clicking anywhere on a selected row opens that row's menu. Previously, right-clicking outside the name opened the current folder's menu, causing applications such as PyCharm and VS Code to open the parent folder. Blank areas on unselected rows and in the list still open the background menu. |
| 16 | Improved | In custom commands, %V now refers to the selected item when run on that item, and to the current folder when run on the background. Replace %V with %W if the command should always use the current folder. |
| 17 | Improved | The Tab Width options Shrink and Full Name have been renamed to Equal Width and Fit to Name. Their behavior is unchanged. |
| 18 | Improved | If only files are selected, or the pointer is over a file, Ctrl+K (Recalculate folder sizes) calculates statistics for every folder in the list. When folders are selected, their expanded, visible subfolders are included. |
| 19 | Improved | In split layouts, the copy progress panel appears within the pane that started the copy, instead of covering the divider and parts of both panes. |
| 20 | Improved | Ctrl+Shift+P can open Settings and Ctrl+N can open a new window while batch rename is open or the filter field has focus. |
| 21 | Improved | Windows: the window appears during startup before graphics initialization finishes. |
| 22 | Improved | Linux (Wayland): content copied in tessoa leaves the clipboard when tessoa exits. Clipboard managers, such as those on KDE, can retain it. Previously, it remained available after exit when wl-clipboard was installed. |
Fixed
| # | Kind | Change |
|---|---|---|
| 23 | Fixed | Creating ZIP, 7z or tar.gz archives from the context menu now uses multiple processor cores instead of just one. |
| 24 | Fixed | New folders on network drives, NAS, shared folders and WSL are now selected for renaming after the directory listing arrives. Slow connections may delay this by a second or two. Files created through the system's new-item menu or by pasting text or images are also selected. Renamed items at these locations remain selected. |
| 25 | Fixed | Files pasted, moved or dragged into network drives and NAS locations are now selected after arrival. |
| 26 | Fixed | Windows: the Size, Folders and Files columns no longer flash every few seconds at WSL and NAS locations. This also applies to hard disks and USB drives whose statistics cannot be read from Everything. |
| 27 | Fixed | In narrow panes, the Tags column now gives up width to keep the Name column visible. It regains its width when the pane widens. |
| 28 | Fixed | Double-clicking a file inside an archive, pressing Enter to open it or dragging it to another application now shows a prompt to extract it first, with an Extract to… button. Previously, these actions gave no feedback. |
| 29 | Fixed | Pressing F5 in This PC or a portable device page no longer leaves the list blank. |
| 30 | Fixed | Disk space usage in the sidebar now updates after files are copied, moved or deleted in tessoa. |
| 31 | Fixed | File icons now update after changing their default application, without restarting tessoa. |
| 32 | Fixed | Windows: corrected the sidebar icons for the Recycle Bin, network locations and some other icons read from the registry. |
| 33 | Fixed | Applications that provide only older 48-pixel icons no longer appear as a small image in the top-left corner at medium and large sizes. Their icons scale to the display size. |
| 34 | Fixed | Returning from a subfolder that uses Gallery view no longer incorrectly leaves the parent folder in Gallery view. |
| 35 | Fixed | On disks with automatic statistics disabled, expanded subfolders no longer remain Not calculated after Ctrl+K, and pressing F5 no longer discards newly calculated statistics. |
| 36 | Fixed | Returning to a copy progress window after switching away no longer makes the displayed transfer speed jump too high and then gradually fall. |
| 37 | Fixed | Mouse wheel scrolling in terminal and editor tabs no longer moves excessive distances. Each wheel step follows the system's lines-per-step setting, while touchpads scroll according to gesture distance. |
| 38 | Fixed | Scrollbars in PDF and DOCX previews can now be dragged, instead of requiring the mouse wheel. |
| 39 | Fixed | Copy Path and Copy Name in the context menu now confirm the copied content, or the number of items for multiple selections. Clipboard write failures also show a notification. |
| 40 | Fixed | The Settings search field now accepts input after opening batch rename and in the affected cases with Vim keybindings enabled. |
| 41 | Fixed | Options in batch rename no longer extend beyond their borders or become obscured. They wrap to another line when space is insufficient. |
| 42 | Fixed | Filtering now matches words at the end of names containing Chinese characters, such as matching “素材备份” with “备份”. |
| 43 | Fixed | Clicking the star on the start page, a tag view or a portable device page no longer adds a garbled favorite. |
| 44 | Fixed | In Columns view, the preview area stays next to the last column without an extra blank gap. Dragging the divider to the right widens the last column. |
| 45 | Fixed | Category cards on the left of Settings no longer cover the plan name at the bottom. |
| 46 | Fixed | The first setting in config.ini is now read when the file is saved with a byte order mark (BOM). |
| 47 | Fixed | Linux: files can be copied and pasted between tessoa and other file managers, browser upload fields and chat applications without installing wl-clipboard or xclip. |
| 48 | Fixed | Linux (X11): text copied from input fields or with Copy Path no longer disappears immediately from the clipboard and can be pasted into other applications. |
| 49 | Fixed | Linux (X11): pressing Ctrl+V after copying files no longer sometimes creates a text file containing previously copied text instead of pasting the files. |
Downgrading
Sandbox plugins do not load in earlier versions. They can be used again after upgrading back to this release. A Recycle Bin favorite cannot open in an earlier version; clicking it reports that the folder does not exist.
Downgrading loses the Fuzzy Match Mode, Single-Click Area, Show Search Box and Name and Opening Folders from Outside settings. Filtering returns to its previous matching behavior. If you selected New window, the corresponding switch under Replace File Explorer in the earlier version returns to off.
A Tags column that gave up width in a narrow pane will not automatically regain it when the pane widens after downgrading. Right-click a column header and choose Size columns to fit window to restore the widths.
