Changelog

The changelog records what changed in each tessoa release. Each release has a page of its own, and this page lists them all, newest first; the top one is the current release, and to download it see Install & download.

Kinds of change

Every entry is marked with the kind of change it is, and every release page uses the same three kinds.

Every entry also carries a number, running from 1 to the end of the release page — the three tables continue the count rather than restarting it. To point at one, v0.18.0 #12 is enough.

Releases

VersionReleasedWhat it brought
v0.24.22026-09-09Listary results can open or reveal items in tessoa, reusing existing tabs. Columns view supports double-clicking empty space to go up while preserving expanded columns, and its address bar follows the active column. Age badges gain a default-text-color style, and license activation gains a direct China route and live progress. Fixes multi-selection properties showing only the first item, window size jumps across monitors and growth after restarts, inconsistent sidebar folder icons, and missing Age badge text in narrow columns
v0.24.12026-09-08Text previews wrap by default, columns size automatically to their contents, and column dividers gain a fit button. QuickLook / Seer previews follow the selection on Windows. Fixes settings and licenses failing to save when starting as administrator, sidebar trees failing to refresh, files opening accidentally during a drag, window size jumps across monitors with different scaling, misplaced grouped-view tooltips and scrollbars left in collapsed sidebar panes
v0.24.02026-09-07The sidebar now uses tabs and can be split into panes. Details gained an Age column. Everything on Windows and Spotlight on macOS can speed up search; file operations denied permission on Windows can be retried as administrator. Preview plugins support paging through documents. Built-in color schemes are reduced to five, and tab widths now fit their content. Also fixes stalled or crashing thumbnail loading and copy-and-paste operations losing modification times
v0.23.12026-09-02The quick bar's buttons and favorites each gained a scale step, and both ship at 125% rather than 100%. The larger icon steps decode at full resolution instead of scaling up a 256 px thumbnail. The sidebar gained a Follow Current Folder in Tree switch, so the automatic expansion can be turned off entirely. Quick Look on Windows learned a second backend, Seer, its settings rows are now always present, and a row beside each reports whether the program is running. The rename box opens with only the stem selected. A failed copy, move or paste says why. Also fixes a right-click menu with no Delete after a multi-selection, two settings that reverted on restart, several actions landing in the wrong pane in a split, and files from a remote desktop client pasting as 0 bytes on macOS
v0.23.02026-08-31Typing in the file list starts filtering, Chinese names can be found by pinyin initials, and the arrow keys pick files while the filter box is lit. A quick bar across the top of the window puts favorites and buttons such as Copy and Paste on one strip whose contents you decide. Views and sorting can be remembered per folder, each kept as you walk between them. UI scale is recorded per screen, so unplugging an external monitor adapts on its own. Chinese file names sort as one block after English, and every small icon is drawn by tessoa itself. Also fixes a crash on very wide windows, a multi-selection that skipped its first file, and two problems on the Recycle Bin page
v0.22.02026-08-28Preview plugins: install one and video and audio get cover frames and play right inside preview. Windows gains a Recycle Bin page that restores, deletes permanently and empties. Network shares got an entry point: type \\server\share in the address bar, or pin one into the sidebar's Places group. Closing the last window can leave tessoa in the tray, and Win+E reuses the window you already have. Grouping and folder expansion now coexist, This PC gained a Drive column, and terminal tabs arrived on macOS and Linux
v0.21.02026-08-25Terminal tabs open in the tab bar: right-click, pick a shell, and a terminal tab sits next to your file tabs — it splits, drags, and is kept across restarts (Windows only, a paid feature). Sidebar folder rows expand into a tree in place, following the current folder. Shortcuts and Vim keys can be unbound, the pages point out when the two clash, and the sidebar's and command palette's Vim keys became editable. Text rendering aligns with the browser on Windows and macOS. Also fixes cut-and-merge losing files, a network share freezing the window, and more
v0.20.12026-08-21Mouse buttons and wheel gestures moved into the Keyboard Shortcuts page and rebind like any key; Vim keys gained a page of their own. After a drag lands a batch of files, the items that arrived are ticked and scrolled into view. The Open With flyout now exists on macOS and Linux. Also fixes a hanging startup, a refresh that dropped your selection, and a preview that ignored a file saved over
v0.20.02026-08-19Hidden items became three tiers, and rules gained scopes, regexes and a way to let items through; hiding also got a context-menu entry and a footer counter. The icons view gained justified rows, masonry and mosaic layouts. Open With became a flyout you can pin programs into, and Space opens Quick Look. Chinese sorts by pinyin and digits by value; the factory themes were replaced and custom schemes can be kept several at a time
v0.19.02026-08-17Dragging files, attachments and web text or links in from other programs. The right-click menu gained custom commands and the entries other software installs, and every entry can be switched off one by one — so can the columns of the details list. Updates install in the background, ready on next start; preview gained TIFF, SVG, cover art and Windows system thumbnails
v0.18.12026-08-14Fixes a portable build showing no window in certain folders, and where the IME candidate window appeared in eight text boxes. Deleting a large batch got thirty times faster; the ellipsis can go in the middle, and the rename box wraps
v0.18.02026-08-13The preview tab: a preview becomes a tab of its own bound to a tab group, so two side by side show two files at once; the columns preview can be closed. Renaming matches File Explorer, plus a round of startup and memory work
v0.17.02026-08-11Archive extraction, an answer for name clashes, one shared folder picker; the sidebar Storage section began listing USB sticks, WSL distributions and phones. Three causes of a failed startup fixed
v0.16.02026-08-07Activity, the system recycle bin, a bookmark tree you can file things into; plus a round of text-rendering and keyboard work

Earlier releases

Earlier releases are still being written up, and will each get a page of their own in the same format.

Tip

tessoa checks for new versions on its own, and by default installs one in the background as soon as it finds it, so the next time you start tessoa you are on the new version. To see which version you have, open Settings and read the version number in the About group; the same group is where automatic checking and installing can be turned off.
